The Park at 4331 Old Hickory Boulevard will open their doors to campers in 4th through 8th grades from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm on June 6, 14, 21 and 28 as well as July 12 and 18. The walk-in value for a buyout of this magnitude is $18,000 but will be entirely donated to continue the GREAT efforts by local law enforcement dedicated to providing school-based instruction outside of the classroom with the intent of keeping kids out of trouble during the summer.

“The G.R.E.A.T. summer camps have been a staple of this police department for years,” said Deputy Chief John Drake of the MNPD’s Support Services Bureau. “The young men and women chosen for the camps have done well in gang resistance classes taught by our School Resource Officers in the classroom and really look forward to being with us in the summer.  Partners like Urban Air who recognize the importance of this continued mentorship of our youth obviously care about Nashville and our city’s future.”

Due to funding cuts, the G.R.E.A.T. program in Nashville was in jeopardy until local community partners like Urban Air stepped forward to help it continue. The program is offered nationwide and has a desired effect of allowing kids to better resist the gang lifestyle and associated gang crime involvement. Recently over three thousand students and their families in cities large and small and crossing all socio-economic lines have taken part in the program. Locally, in Nashville all camps are full with 120 children attending 6-sessions booked through MNPD.

“Urban Air Nashville is thrilled to donate our facility to help the Metro Nashville Police Department and their G.R.E.A.T summer program,” said Park Owner Stephanie Pederson. We know how beneficial this is to the local community. We believe that all children deserve to play and create lasting memories and we are happy to help provide those special memories with an experience at Urban Air Adventure Park.”
